Bundy, a 67-year-old patriarch of a large Mormon family with over 50 grandchildren, first became famous after refusing to pay for his cattle grazing for free on public lands. He appears to be blissfully ignorant of the ironic hypocrisy of his views concerning minorities receiving subsidies from the government.
"This is the beginning of taking America back," said Shawna Cox, who had come from Kanab, Utah, to support him.
Back to pre-1865 America, that is.
Ammon Bundy, a car fleet manager from Phoenix, said his father had taught the federal government a lesson. "We ran them out of here. We were serious. We weren't playing around."
It's not well known, but people of African ancestry were considered by Brigham Young, the second leader of the Mormon Church, to be cursed with dark skin as punishment for Cain's murder of his brother. Not until 1978 were these views reversed by the Church leaders. And anyone who has traveled throughout Utah knows that the further one gets from Salt Lake City, the more fundamentalist the Mormons are.

The Obama administration appears to be hesitant to repeat the fatal mistakes the Bush I and Clinton administrations made at Ruby Ridge and Waco with respect to Cliven Bundy's three sons, one of whom is Ammon, the leader of those occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon.
At Ruby Ridge, Idaho, in August 1992, Randy Weaver, a separatist who refused to follow federal gun laws, witnessed the death of his son and wife during shootouts with federal officers, with one of those officers dying as well. His wife was killed while standing at their cabin door while holding their ten-month-old daughter. The federal government was at least equally to blame for the killings because Weaver and friend Kevin Harris were found innocent of all charges at a federal trial. Their attorney, Gerry Spence, made accusations of "criminal wrongdoing" against every agency involved in the incident: the FBI, the US Marshals Service, the BATF, and the United States Attorney's Office for Idaho. A Ruby Ridge Task Force was created to look into the accusations, with the task force concluding that federal authorities overreacted to the threat of violence and instituted a shoot-on-sight policy that violated Bureau guidelines and Fourth Amendment restrictions on police power.
A large part of that overreaction stemmed from law enforcement's belief that the death of a member of their community is much worse than that of a civilian. This arrogant belief led years later to a teacher bleeding to death over a four-hour period during the Columbine High School shootings. A student had written "1 bleeding to death'' - on a white erasable board and placed it in a classroom window and a teacher repeatedly called 911 to stress the seriousness of the situation, all to no avail. It's also worth noting that the Columbine murderers actually intended to kill thousands via propane bombs and only resorted to shooting as plan-B. If all guns were confiscated as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama desire to do, the next generation of the Columbine murderers will simply spend more time learning how to make proper explosive devices.
The siege at Waco, Texas, was much worse. The Branch Davidians, an off-shoot of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, had established a compound in Waco. Similar to the events at Ruby Ridge, the residents, led by a polygamist leader named Vernon Wayne Howell, a/k/a David Koresh, had run afoul of federal gun laws. A much more serious problem was that Koresh had established himself as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and took most of the girls and women in the The Branch Davidians for his sexual pleasure, similar to how Warren Jeffs and FLDS leaders take all girls and women in the FLDS community, with that community divided between the combined towns of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona, Bountiful, British Columbia, Canada, and other locations, with one obvious result being that excess males, the lost boys, are sent away from the community so the leaders can have all females.
The BATF bungled the initial raid on the Branch Davidian compound, resulting in six Branch Davidians and four BATF agents shot dead. Federal authorities still had not learned the Ruby Ridge lesson and on April 19, 1993, attacked the compound with armored vehicles loaded with tear gas. The apocalyptic Branch Davidians responded by starting fires and killing almost everyone inside the compound in their best Jonestown manner, resulting in 75 deaths including 25 children under the age of 15. Some FBI officials lied regarding the use of pyrotechnic tear gas canisters, natually leading people to wonder what else they lied about.
It's worth noting that between the initial raid and the holocaust, 35 people left the compound voluntarily. If authorities had simply blockaded the compound and turned off electricity and telephone service, the Branch Davidians would have left of their own accord.
Timothy McVeigh cited the Waco incident as a primary motivation for the Oklahoma City bombing of April 19, 1995, which killed 168 people, including 19 children.
The Bundy sons are taking us down the same road. The people they are allegedly supporting, the Hammond family, the Oregon ranchers at the center of the dispute, have declared that they do not want the assistance of the Bundy gang.
Oregon Governor Kate Brown declared: "But I will say this ... The situation is absolutely intolerable and it must be must be resolved immediately. The very fabric of this community is being ripped apart." The standoff is costing Oregon about $100,000 per week.
And it's not hard to see that the situation could go on forever with trucks coming and going carrying supplies for the Bundy gang, the members of which are as demented as the Branch Davidians.
The Oathkeepers, a kindred spirit, declares on its website: "We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to 'keep the peace' or to “maintain control." However, there is absolutely no hint of a threat of foreign troops coming our way.
The Oathkeepers proclaim a similar message to the Bundy gang with respect to freedom of speech: "We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances." The problem here is that the Bundy gang does not allow opinions which are counter to its parasitical mission, with its thugs preventing the display of a sign reading "Keep Public Lands Public."
The Obama administration has allowed the situation to become out of control, but it's still not too late. Following are the steps which should be immediately implemented:
- Cut-off electricity, water, and telephone to all occupied buildings.
- Secure the perimeter with National Guard Bradleys. Since the ground is snow-covered, it's really only necessary to secure the roads which state troopers can manage. Bradleys will be able to overtake any thug trying to escape cross-country.
- Arrest anyone who leaves.
- Prevent all vehicles and individuals from entering the immediate vicinity to prevent resupply.
- Don't confront any thug directly. Even if one points a rifle at a Bradley, we should just wait him out, as no hunting rifle bullet can penetrate one. It would be best if we could mount internally-aimed pepper spray dispensers on the left-front and right-front corners to subdue malcontents.
- Deny permission for the thugs to grandstand in front of reporters. This will drive them crazy.
In other words, we prevent any of them from leaving and completely eschew violence to forestall their apocalyptic notions. They will run out of food, chewing tobacco, and beard grooming supplies within a short time and be forced to surrender.
